More than 100 years since its creation, Hana no Hana-the incense that laid the foundation for modern floral incense-continues to be cherished today.
During the Meiji era, a young incense artisan named Yujiro Kito, a genius of fragrance creation, became fascinated with the floral aromas of Western perfumes. He attempted to recreate these perfume-like florals in incense form-something considered impossible at the time. Perfume cannot simply be solidified and burned; true incense requires the mastery of burning solid materials at high temperatures (approx. 500°C) to release fragrance.
After extensive experimentation, Yujiro succeeded in crafting a new type of incense with a completely unique scent-unlike anything seen in traditional Japanese incense.
He named his creation "Perfume Fragrance Hana no Hana", meaning "Flower of Flowers."
Thus began the long legacy of this iconic fragrance.
Today, over a century later, Hana no Hana remains beloved, featuring a classic floral woody fragrance composed of rose, lily, and violet, enriched with luxurious Indian sandalwood and musk for an elegant oriental depth.
